Here is our growing collection of ‘city-fresh’ eggs. We noticed that the two chickens lay different shaded eggs. One lays a darker shaded egg. The other lays a lighter shade of egg that actually has tiny dark speckles all over one side.
^ The egg is an amazing creation. And friends of ours have told us they come in many different colors. So far, the two chickens we’re watching, Miss Lemon and Mrs. Hudson, are laying brown eggs.
^You’ll notice the difference between these two yolks. The fresh egg, which we knew for sure had come from a chicken, is darker in color. It is also more round in shape–it is smaller because it comes from a younger chicken. The store-bought, which in reality DID come from a chicken, we just don’t think of it that way because we get them out of a box and not a coop, is flatter, paler but bigger. They don’t taste different from one another. We’re pretty sure the fresh one is more healthy, though. :D
Nathan loves watching. He loved touching those squishy yolks, too. Kayla thought it was rather disgusting. I had a jolly time playing around with them.
All pictures taken by Kayla. She took these the night I was doing dinner (because Mom hadn’t been feeling well). We ran out of store-eggs, and so were forced to crack one of our fresh ones. I don’t know why we’re saving them….maybe we’re just seeing how many we get.
Whatever. :D :D :D
