Travel in our nation’s capitol left a lot to be desired. There is basically no parking for the “little guy” in the city. We drove to the metro station, payed to park, then boarded the Metro subway system and walked the rest of the day.
Here we are getting off the Metro at the Smithsonian Station, with the rain that morning we decided a day at the museums would be good.
We’re on the National Mall with the Capitol in the background.
First stop was the National Museum of American History. Here are Dorothy’s red slippers from the Wizard of Oz movie.
Also on display was Julia Child’s actual kitchen from her home.
Also on display was the original Star-Spangled Banner. They wouldn’t allow picture to be taken but it was amazingly large.
It seems they change the displays from time to time but it was interesting to see what they thought was notable American History.
I, in particular, was amazed at the fossil specimens they had and they had lots of them.
They had quite the collection of dinosaur bones too.
Heading back to the hotel on the Metro.
